Components

A consistent user experience across all UGA websites helps reflect our stature as a top national public research university in America. We have developed elements for website design that elevate the UGA web experience while providing the flexibility needed to communicate unique messages.

Header

The header of a website is the easiest way to create a consistent experience across all websites. The simple header is intended to be used in conjunction with existing header navigation and layout.

Visual example

The screenshot below illustrates an example of a properly formatted header.

Header Template Source Code and Assets

Starter templates for creating your own header are provided in two formats: Simple .zip and Git repository.

How to Choose

If you are an experienced front-end developer, we recommend using the Git repository as it offers features like automated build scripts, a synced local development server, code linting, etc. It also includes a Readme with additional details for developers.

For those who are newer to web content creation, or just want a simple solution, the .zip download contains production ready and easily edited HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images.

Footer

The global web footer provides visual consistency across all UGA websites. Users can easily navigate to key university-level pages from all UGA websites. The footer includes several required links to help maintain consistency but is also flexible to accommodate specific website goals. Similar to the header, the footer can be appended after any existing site-specific footer on your website.

Required Links

Privacy Policy

A link to the EITS Privacy Policy is required on all websites.

Report an Accessibility Barrier

A link to the UGA Accessibility Barriers Reporting form is required on all websites. The current form cam be found at Report a Digital Accessibility Barrier.

Student Complaints

Units categorized as a functional area are required to link to the Student Complaint Portal in compliance with the Procedures for Written Student Complaints policy.

These functional areas may choose to include this link in this footer or elsewhere on their website.

Human Trafficking Notice

According to Georgia Code Section 16-5-47, a link to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Human Trafficking Notice is required on the homepage of government entities. This link is only required on the university homepage.

Ethics Reporting Hotline

USG Policy 16.5.8 requires the UGA Hotline Reporting System be linked on the University’s homepage or other prominent location accessible by employees, students, and the public. This link is only required on the university homepage.

Additional Text Links

Individual sites can append up to three additional links in the footer. These should retain the existing format.

Social Media Icons and Links

These icons should link to the official University of Georgia accounts. Site-specific social media links can be included in a separate site-specific footer or elsewhere on the site, such as the header.
